P Zero™ Trofeo - The track is your road

An innovative ultra-low profile tyre, with asymmetric tread pattern.

Designed for racetrack driving on dry asphalt.

Developed for the most powerful sports cars in production, it exploits the Pirelli experience in motorsport: it withstands the intense use and high temperatures generated in extreme use. In extreme conditions, typical of racetrack driving, it reacts with precision to commands. On dry asphalt, even in the most demanding sessions it ensures high levels of grip and constant trajectories. P Zero™ Trofeo is not recommended for use in very wet track conditions.

Specific for racetrack driving, it is approved for road use, enabling travel to the track. In the event of very wet asphalt, with the risk of aquaplaning, prudent driving at reduced speed is recommended.

P Zero™ Trofeo also applies the environmentally-friendly Green Performance philosophy. Its compounds are free of potentially harmful highly aromatic oils. And in terms of reduced noise levels, it already meets the legislation coming into force in the next few years.

Developed for the racetrack

The asymmetric  tread is characterized by two wide central ribs and large regular blocks.

Developed for the racetrack, each area has a specific function, calculated to the millimetre.

The inner area, together with the longitudinal grooves, responds to the critical issues of wet surfaces and aquaplaning.
The imposing central ribs guide the trajectories and withstand the structural stresses on braking.
The transversal cuts ensure traction and braking.

The outer area with pattern derived from rally asphalt applications, ensures the required rigidity to cope with the stresses during cornering, typical of racetrack driving.

A notable increase (+10%) in the size of the contact area in bends, thanks to flexibility derived from the numerous grooves present from the centre towards the inner shoulder.

In front (for cars with different sections on the axles) and all-around fitments, the longitudinal grooves are wider, to counter the effects of standing water, with respect to the rear tyre.

Front (where applicable, with narrower section): good performance in aquaplaning thanks to the land/sea ratio comparable to a pure road tyre;

Rear: thanks to the specific work done by the front tyre, it can concentrate on road holding deriving from the ‘fuller’ pattern;

All around: intermediate solution, with a lower land/sea ratio than a pure road tyre.

Technology in the service of racetrack driving

Maximum response to the driver’s commands, high grip in bends, acceleration and braking: the design qualities of P Zero™ Trofeo transfer safety into extreme use and in road journeys. These results are thanks to manufacturing solutions which have increased structural resistance for extreme use of tyres. P Zero™ Trofeo is a leader in technological refinement.

Profile
With respect to the previous product the design innovation of P Zero™ Trofeo stands out for the larger footprint with a more uniform distribution of the pressure. The advantage translates into greater grip, more regular wear and a increased driving comfort.

Compounds
Pirelli has developed new formulas, in order to maintain high performance over longer times in the presence of very high thermal stresses, without penalizing handling on wet surfaces.

EU Tyre Label and Efficiency Classes

EU Tyre Label and Efficiency Classes

The European Union has introduced the EU Tyre Label by Regulation (No. 1222/2009) identically and bindingly for all EU member states. It applies to passenger car tyres, light commercial vehicle tyres and heavy commercial vehicle tyres produced after 01.07.2012.

Three different areas are tested: rolling resistance, wet grip and the rolling noise the tyre makes on the road.

The following are not affected by the EU Tyre Label: retreaded tyres, professional off-road tyres, racing tyres, tyres with additional devices to improve traction such as spiked tyres, T-type emergency tyres, special tyres for fitting to vehicles first registered before 1 October 1990, tyres with a maximum authorised speed of 80 km/h, tyres for rims with a nominal diameter of 254 mm or less or 635 mm or more.

With this regulation, the European Union is pursuing the goal of promoting economic and ecological efficiency in road traffic as well as increasing road safety on the one hand, and on the other hand, granting consumers more product transparency and at the same time serving as an active decision-making aid.

Already during the incorporation, experts criticise the fact that the EU Tyre Label unfortunately only shows a few product characteristics. Apart from rolling resistance, wet grip and rolling noise, which are the main focus of EU tyre labelling, tyres have much more important and safety-relevant product characteristics, such as aquaplaning properties, driving stability, service life, braking properties on dry and wet roads, behaviour in wintry conditions, etc.

Tyre manufacturers point out that test results from various institutions and journals remain an important information medium for the end consumer. These tests usually focus on further safety-relevant product characteristics besides the EU standard qualifications for tyre labelling, which are always important for the final customer.
