13.06.2024 from Jon Stroud
Having used Pirelli Scorpions as a winter tyre before, I've always been extremely happy with their performance. For a soft compound tyre the wear rate on them is surprisingly good - I usually get a good 3+ winters on them swapping them in in December and out again round about March. They get a lot of driving on pretty poor country roads as well as longer motorway runs and, when the weather gets bad, inspire a great deal of confidence. Grip on the snow is exceptional. They are a little noisier than the Pirelli P-Zeros that I run the rest of the year but that's to be expected - generally you only notice that when switching back to the summer tyres!

Faultless. Noise levels great for a winter tyre

A sure grip in all weather / road conditions
30.04.2021 from Paul
Just avoid, unless you live in Finland or something. Driving in WET and Dry, just terrible grip and I have a 4x4 Subaru with LSD. It's shocking really. Unless you drive really slow, it's OK then, but come roundabout they just don't grip doesn't matter wet or dry. Good in snow, but it should be at least good in wet as well and OK in dry, but It's crap in both wet and dry, so not good for me, will not buy again.
05.06.2019 from Ash
I didn't get these on until Feb/Mar when worst of the weather had passed. Driven on main roads & motorways at temps between 3°c and 16°c in mixed weather without problems. Obviously they were less responsive at the higher temps but never felt dangerous. No sign of wear at all. Dry road grip when accelerating lost traction a bit too easily but cornering was predictable.

11.03.2022 from David
I have been an Avon fan for nearly 50 years and currently have 4 of their tyres on my SUV. I've just received an MOT advisory warning that the front 2 are perishing, after only 2 years and 6000 miles of normal use (ie no off road use) - see photo. I've submitted a warranty request to the company and will update this review, based on the response I get. UPDATE - The response I've received from Avon is that I have to return my car to the garage who fitted the tyres, then get them to remove the tyres and send them back to Avon. That means I have to leave my car sitting on the garage forecourt on its rims for as long as it takes Avon to uplift, examine and report on the tyres. If Avon deem the ZX7s to be faulty, they will refund on the basis of how much tread is left compared to new, but if they think the tyres are 'within normal specification', they will return them to the garage, to be refitted. As an alternative, Avon suggest that I simply buy 2 new tyres, before sending my originals back. That way I don't lose the use of my car, but what happens if they decide that they won't honour my warranty claim? I'll then have 2 sets of tyres! And who pays the garage to do all this work? If ever there was a procedure designed to hamper a consumer making a warranty claim, then this has to be it. No goodwill from Avon, no acceptance of what an accredited long standing garage or a qualified MOT inspector says. Just a robotic insistence to follow a claims procedure that severely inconveniences customers. All tyres perish eventually, but not usually after only 2 years and 6,000 miles of normal UK use - and not usually in the valley of the tread (which is dangerous, because it's closer to the structural carcas of the tyre). If my situation was a one off, you could just put it down to bad luck, but a quick internet search reveals plenty of other people with Avon tyres failing in exactly the same way. Bearing in mind that if you buy Avons and they perish like mine, you will be expected to jump through the hoops I have described above to make a warranty claim, the only logical advice I can give is that everyone avoids buying Avon tyres in the first place. FOOTNOTE - in terms of performance, I thought that the ZX7s were quieter than the Continentals that came with the car, but inferior in every other way, particularly economy. Anyway, what does performance matter, if a tyre perishes after only 2 years and 6,000 miles of use?
22.06.2019 from Speegles
This is the 3rd set of ZX7s on my Rav4. I'm getting 35000km off each set, and they are nothing short of fantastic. My partner also has them in her B class Mercedes, again, excellent

They are Pirelli tyres so should be good across the board. However the driving comfort in my electric car is not the same anymore with these tyres due to minor vibrations and no I don’t have balancing issues so will switch back to Michelin when I need new tyres which won’t be anytime soon.

I am definitely satisfied and happy with my purchase. 4 years ago I discovered this tire model and it is the second set (4 pieces) I have. What convinced me? The fact that at any speed, water from the wheels is thrown to the outside of the car and not on the windshield. 0.3-0.5l / 100km savings on diesel consumption. In Germany on the highway I had a top speed of 232km / h. Stability and performance on mountain and speed roads. Long life. For my car this model I could say is perfect.

Very comfortable ride with very little road noise. Good grip under all conditions.

Very good life span , woz getting approx 45k miles out of a fronts before down to approx 2mm ,rears 65k miles at about 2mm ... front of vechile went a bit vauge in deep tramlined water though ... .

Had these on for 17000km of very hard driving - fast highway - then down to muddy country lanes - towing boats regularly. the best tyre i have fitted to the car in 11years of ownership. Very hard wearing - dry handling is superb - wet also very good - seem ok in snow but not as good in wet slush compared to a full winter . Good in mud and rough trails. As an all rounder i have yet to find better. Only negative is a bit noisier on smooth surfaces at low speeds(50-60kmh) - Definitely fitting again - worth the extra money as they last so long...

OK concerning all aspects - Except NOISE. Really bad ! Not in the topline other Comfort-aspects. But ok. The noise level on the Swedish often very coarse asphalt is horrible-I will have too change tyres. In comparison with the 17" wintertyres -friction- the soundlevel is extremely different-VERY FAR FROM ACCEPTABLE. Strange-when you look att the EU db figures (68 db) , but that must be a value on an extremely smooth Surface. The noisiest tire I ever had !

Having used Pirelli Scorpions as a winter tyre before, I've always been extremely happy with their performance. I'm a taxi driver out in rural Essex, I drive on all types of roads including Motorways, A roads, B roads, all types of country lanes, farms, you name it I go on it. the tyres have to put up with a lot of stressful driving conditions and the have coped brilliantly and no signs of wear yet. Michelin are the best tyre I've used. Also I use 235XL for xtra grip, and my car is a Galaxy Titanium 7 seater 17inch wheel.

Slightly noisier at low speeds than I had expected (my Cooper winter tyres are quieter) although the relative noise abates at higher speeds. They're pretty firm on bumpy roads where I drive most often. Superb for motorway driving in terms of low noise and excellent ride comfort.
01.08.2020 from Rob
Great wearing tyre, plenty of grip in the wet and dry. Wearing better the Goodyear F1's I had on the car before. Will definitely buy again.
29.04.2020 from Mr Doorbar
These tyres were OE on my 2017 Passat Estate so I stuck with the same when it came to replacing the fronts. I'm still on the original rears. The fronts did around 24K miles while the tread left of the rears gives me around another 10K at least. However, the tyres walls on the rear have slight cracking even though they haven't been curbed and if get worst it will become an MOT failure at the cars first MOT this year. The one area where these tyres are weakest are the road noise. I'm sure there are quieter tyres out there but they may be weaker in other areas. On the whole these Pirellis are more than suitable for any family car.
15.01.2019 from Glynne Gianelli
Seems quieter and more comfortable. Grip very good and economy improved as well.
