Winter tyres - for a save driving on snow and ice.
The "M + S" (or M & S, MS) marking can currently be found on winter and all season tyres. Besides this marking, a snowflake symbol can be found on some models. The M + S tyres that have the snowflake symbol meet the higher quality standards. Since 2011, winter tyres are mandatory in Ireland. Having a special blend of rubber that resists to low temperatures, these tyres are more adapted to winter conditions than the summer tyres. Therefore, the car will have a good grip even dealing with low temperatures. The optimised profile reduces the risk of hydroplaning and provides a good grip in snowy and icy conditions. The larger grooves and the additional blades improve stability when switching from snow to wet and to dry road conditions. We have winter tyres suitable for your car. Identify the size of your tyre
The exact dimensions of a tyre can be found on the sidewall printed mark. The graphic shows how to read properties and dimensions of the tyre:

SPEED INDEX:
The speed index indicates the maximum speed intended for the tyre. Up to this value, the manufacturer guarantees optimum operation with the appropriate tyre pressure. The maximum speed allowed for this vehicle is given in the vehicle owner's manual; this information can be used to select the appropriate speed index for the tyre. The speed index is the last mark on the sidewall of the tyre.
 
Load Index
Permissible maximum axle load per tyre in kg. To be found in the registration certificate or vehicle registration document or read directly from the tyre (two-digit number). It is permitted to fit a tyre with a higher load index.
 
Driving safety despite puncture
Runflat tyres are puncture-resistant tyres with reinforced sidewalls. This creates the so-called run-flat property. In the event of damage, this allows the vehicle to continue driving up to a distance of approx. 100 km (and even beyond depending on the product) at a maximum speed of 80 km/h, even if the pressure has been completely lost. Run-flat tyres even prevent the tyre rubber from jumping off the rim in the event of a loss of air pressure. A flat tyre is therefore still a flat tyre, but it loses some of its drama. Note: All run-flat tyres are marked with the symbol "RSC" (Runflat System Component) and may only be fitted in vehicles with a functioning air pressure control system!
 
Tyres with increased load capacity
Reinforced tyres are designed for higher loads than normal tyres. They can be identified by the designation 'RF' (reinforced) or also 'XL' or 'Extra Load'. They are used on vans, minibuses, off-road vehicles, etc. However, their mounting alone does not automatically result in higher load capacity but also requires a correspondingly higher air pressure. Furthermore, the load capacity index specified in the vehicle documents continues to apply.
 
Tyres with extra high load capacity
The "C" in the term C tyres stands for "commercial". These tyres are specially designed for commercial vehicles. These can be, for example, lighter trucks, delivery vans, flatbed trucks or panel vans. In other words: vehicles that have to move higher loads at a comparatively lower speed. The multi-ply reinforced C tyres are therefore even more load-bearing than reinforced tyres.
 
Mobility-optimised tyres
A tyre with a sealing layer on the opposite side of the tyre tread. In the event of a puncture (e.g. by a nail), this layer blocks any loss of air, even if the foreign body causing the puncture is still in the tyre. It is not necessary to stop or change the tyres immediately at the roadside.

Original equipment quality: optimum adjustment to the vehicle
Tyres with a special OEM marking on the sidewall, e.g. "MO" for Mercedes-Benz, were developed in cooperation with a specific car manufacturer and the tyre industry. These tyres have been homologated by the vehicle manufacturer and are a perfect match for a specific model. They have been specially designed to highlight or further improve the performance characteristics of the car in question, thus representing the culmination of a state-of-the-art fine-tuning process that perfectly complements the latest technological developments in the automotive industry. Tyres with manufacturer's markings can of course also be used on other vehicles.

I live off road network 1000ft up in pennines. Encounter the following mud grass gravel floods sow and ice. I did hill farming for neighbour driving off tracks. I drive bmw like you would a land-rover when off road network. Was trained by British Leyland many years ago and drove land-rover countryside ranger.

I would like to say that these tyres saved our bacon this winter. We had lots of snow and ice over January and February this year and the tyres never lost an ounce of grip. Even when others were stuck and lost in snow drifts, the Scout got through. I was concerned about the wear of the tyres (bring softer than summet tyres but there was little wear showing on the Winter Tyres). Highly recommended for high speed road driving or off-road snowdrifts!

Great tyres , good all round grip, as I live in Scotland the seasons change every 5mins, with plenty of rain &amp; the odd bit of snow , I do some off road driving and never got the car stuck, I do run this type of tyre all year round , but as the car is quite light I always change my tyres when they get down to 3mm , I think this is far safer ,

The tyres perform unbelievably well. Braking and grip in the wet is just phenomenal. Outstanding performance. Superb and consistent grip in heavy persistent rain along French motorway to the UK, long and short journeys.

I went for the BMW approved (star marked) Blizzak and I&rsquo;m very happy with the tyres. I&rsquo;ve had Conti Winter Contact on previous cars and in regular use I would say the Blizzak is very comparable. The car retains decent steering feel and traction on wet and dry roads plus offers a far greater level of grip on snow/slush over a regular tyre. Ride comfort seems pretty much unchanged, as always with winters there is a little more noise but it&rsquo;s slight and after 5 minutes you don&rsquo;t notice! Fuel consumption does increase very slightly over the summer tyres BUT that could be down to the cold weather as much as the tyres!

I was worried that it would be a nightmare to drive in the snow due to being rear wheel drive and its power. I put these tyres on the front and different winter tyres on the rear and never had any problems at all - very surprised and impressed!

I had Pirelli Sottozero serie ii on my last car and they were awful, but did allow me to get up the drive when covered in snow. These Alpin PA4 ZP&#39;s ride much better, grip much better and just don&#39;t really feel like a compromise unless you are really pressing on, when a summer tyre would be better. (I don&#39;t really push it when temperatures are sub zero.) 5 stars for dry grip, given its a winter tyre.
